Abstract:
Recognizing the need to link the protein and nitrogen needs of poor Liberian Farmers directly to massive atmospheric Nitrogen (N2 ) reserves, IITA and Wageningen University are collaborating on a Project titled – Putting Nitrogen Fixation to Work for Smallholder Farmers in Africa. The project is providing farmers with improved grain legume varieties, new income generating crop production practices and renewable soil fertility management practices. This report is a summary of activities undertaken in March and April – geared towards helping farmers to practically understand the management of nitrogen, legumes, rhizobia and biological nitrogen fixation including skills in rhizobial inoculants handling and application.
